The Final Lesson from 50 Episodes of Figure 8

After 50 episodes of Figure 8, I’ve had the honour of hearing from, learning with, and lifting up some of the boldest, brightest women entrepreneurs in the game. As I reflect on the lessons that have come up repeatedly, one truth continues to ring out like a bell:

Purpose-driven profit is the new power.

This isn’t just a catchy phrase — it’s a fundamental shift in how we, as women entrepreneurs, are redefining success.

We are no longer playing by outdated rules of business that pit profit against purpose. Instead, we are building companies that thrive because of our values, not in spite of them. And we’re doing it on our own terms:  with grace, grit, and big gorgeous goals.

From Basement Start-Up to Purpose-Driven Scale

When I co-founded Mabel’s Labels, we didn’t just want to sell durable name tags for kids. We wanted to build a business that worked for our families, empowered other women, and made life easier for parents like us. That clear purpose was our rocket fuel. It guided decisions, shaped our culture, and attracted a loyal community.

We grew that business from a basement in Hamilton to a multimillion-dollar company, eventually selling to a publicly traded giant. But it wasn’t just the bottom line that made us a success. It was our why — our mission — that made the journey worthwhile and the impact real.

Your Why Is Your Leverage

In Big Gorgeous Goals, I talk about the "10/90 rule".  This is how 10% of a goal is the dreamy, visionary part, and 90% is the work of bringing it to life. But I’ve come to believe that purpose is what carries you through the 90%.

When you’re scaling your business, facing down fear, hiring a team, or pivoting during a crisis, your why becomes your anchor. Your mission keeps you bold when you're tempted to shrink. It keeps you building even when it’s hard.

And here’s the powerful part: purpose isn’t just a motivational poster. It’s a strategy. Brands with a clear mission grow faster, build trust more quickly, and generate loyalty that money can’t buy.

Redefining Power

Power used to be about titles, corner offices, and shareholder returns. But women entrepreneurs are creating a new model. Today, power is about impact. It’s about how you show up, who you lift as you climb, and how your business leaves the world better than it found it.

That’s the energy behind Figure 8. And it’s the heart of the work I do now — guiding women entrepreneurs as they dance their way to 8-figures, with profit and purpose working in beautiful alignment.

What’s Your Purpose-Driven Profit Play?

I leave you with this:

  • What drives you that has nothing to do with money?

  • How does your business serve something bigger than you?

  • Are you building a company that reflects your deepest values — or one that drains them?

Let this be your invitation to realign. Because in today’s world, purpose-driven profit isn’t just powerful. It’s magnetic.
